Ask a longtime Atlantis resident when the neighborhood feels most like theirs, and the answer isn't January. It's now. The seasonal traffic on Congress Avenue thins, the tee sheets loosen, and the fall calendar hasn't yet crowded the weekends. For roughly six weeks between mid-August and the first cool-front weekend, the city built around the 828-acre ranch that Nathan Hunt and Paul Kintz purchased in 1958 to develop the community surrounding Atlantis functions the way it was drawn up: quiet, walkable, and short on wait times.
This post is a shoulder-season field guide for people who already live inside the 33462. Every place named below sits within a ten-minute drive of Atlantis Country Club, and most of the fall dates worth pre-blocking are already on the books.
The strip at the northwest corner of Lantana Road and South Congress is the closest thing Atlantis has to a village center, and August is when you can actually get a parking spot in front of the door you want.
Start at Polar Bakery at 5817 S. Congress Ave. Established in 1981, when Ingrid and Esbjorn Olsen arrived with a dream and a signed lease for a small bakery in Lantana, the business grew and in 2013 relocated to the Shoppes of Atlantis just down the road from JFK Medical Center, attracting a whole new client base from Atlantis and the surrounding area. The princess cake is the signature, but the weekday move is a cardamom pulla and a coffee while the display case still has everything in it. The Palm Beaches tourism board points to Polar Bakery for Scandinavian-inspired breads and pastries freshly baked daily, and to Atlantis Grill & Bar for elevated surf and turf, including jumbo shrimp and fresh mahi mahi.
Two doors down sits Paya Thai at 5879 S. Congress and Rosalita's Tex-Mex Grill at 5949 S. Congress, both reliable weeknight rotations for households that are tired of Uber Eats. For a longer sit, Atlantis Grill & Bar at 5805 S. Congress runs a daily happy hour from 4 to 7, with 30% off appetizers, and the kitchen holds through 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Sundays it closes, which is the kind of detail you learn only after showing up hungry.
If you've lived here more than a season, you already know the Shoppes. The point isn't discovery. It's that August is the month when the counter staff has time to talk, and the princess cake case is still full at 2 p.m.
The best amenity in the Atlantis ZIP code is not inside the gate. It's the 726-acre county park a mile north, and late summer is when residents actually get to use it.
John Prince Park is one of Palm Beach County's largest and most-visited regional parks, covering roughly 726 acres, including nearly 340 acres of lake. Built around Lake Osborne in Lake Worth Beach, the park draws locals and visitors year-round for camping, fishing, golf, and lakeside trails. The park is best known for its full-service campground, the Lake Woof off-leash dog park, and the John Prince Golf Learning Center, but it also has room for just about everything else — soccer and cricket fields, baseball diamonds, tennis and basketball courts, a kids' water play area, and miles of paved paths for walking and biking along the water.
A few things a resident should know that a first-time visitor won't:
If you want a route: park at the north lot, walk the paved loop toward the golf learning center, and turn back at the campground gate. It's a little under three miles round trip, shaded for about half.
The shoulder season is short. The fall calendar starts filling the second week of October, and two of the biggest local dates are staged inside or immediately next to the Atlantis footprint.
| Date | Event | Where | Why it matters for residents |

Two of these three run through streets and lots residents use every week. Knowing about them in August is the difference between a leisurely Saturday and a twenty-minute detour.
Downtown Lake Worth Beach is fifteen minutes from Atlantis Boulevard on a light-traffic night, and August is a light-traffic month. Two streets carry most of what's worth the drive.
Atlantis is a short drive from Lake Worth Beach, a city known for its vibrant downtown. Along its two main streets, Lake Avenue and Lucerne Avenue, visitors can explore an eclectic mix of shops and restaurants. Downtown, the Cultural Council features gallery exhibitions from local artists. At 713 Lake Ave, the Lake Worth Playhouse, housed in the historic Oakley Theatre, offers a variety of programming including dramas, comedies, musicals, Broadway favorites, children's shows, and international ballets and operas in cinema. Another spot for art and culture lovers is the Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts, which offers glassblowing classes and features the largest hot glass shop in the state. The Playhouse building is worth noting on its own: the Lake Worth Playhouse occupies the former Oakley Theatre, the oldest building on the register of the Art Deco Society of Palm Beach County, constructed on the wave of a movie mania sweeping the country in the early 1920s.
For a music night, J Street is where the calendar lives. Propaganda at 6 S. J Street books a genuine range, from local punk and ska bills to a free, multi-venue Mango Music Fest hosted throughout J Street, with stages across Pomona, Propaganda, Bamboo Room, and Rudy's, blending Palm Beach County and Miami artists into a mix of Latin, jazz, funk, soul, and horn-driven music. If you've been assuming West Palm is the only real live-music option north of Delray, one Friday on J Street will change your calibration.
Add one weekend on the winter side of things for planning purposes: the Midnight Sun Festival at Bryant Park runs Friday, February 27, 2026 from 5 to 10 pm, Saturday from noon to 10 pm, and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. It's the Scandinavian counterpart to the summer bakery run, and it's earlier than most residents remember.
The economics of an Atlantis home aren't really about January. They're about whether you use the address the other ten months of the year. The shoulder season is the honest test. If a Tuesday walk around Lake Osborne, a Wednesday-night plate at Paya Thai, and a Friday show at the Playhouse feel like your life rather than an errand, the neighborhood is doing what it's supposed to do.
The seasonal residents will be back in a few weeks. The tee times will tighten. The Shoppes lot will get harder. That's fine. It's also the reason the six weeks in front of you are the ones worth spending on the ground.
